Baby Boomers.....

I actually had to look up when baby boomers were born so that I could successfully make fun of them. My problem is that they are the product of the "greatest generation" and in my view a bit of a disappointment.

article #1 -
Baby Boomer cohort #1 (born from 1946 to 1954)
Memorable events: assassinations of JFK, Robert Kennedy, and Martin Luther King, Jr., political unrest, Vietnam War, anti-war protests, social experimentation, Sexual freedom, civil rights movement, environmental movement, Women's movement, protests and riots, experimentation with various intoxicating recreational substances

Key characteristics: experimental, individualism, free spirited, social cause oriented

Baby Boomer cohort #2 (born from 1955 to 1964)
Memorable events: Watergate,Nixon resigns, the Cold war, the Oil embargo, raging inflation, gasoline shortages

Key characteristics: less optimistic, distrust of government, general cynicism

Now this doesn't sound like my parents. Or many of their friends.

But this is how they were, not who they are.

Look at our leaders. Our Prime Ministers, our Presidents. They were part of this Baby Boomer crap? They must have been the geeks that all the cool kids wouldn't sit beside. Now they've gotten back at them by becoming a part of the government. In the USA you have to be over a certain age to be President, I think there should be a cap. I used to like John McCain, but there is no reason to think he has the interest of anyone under thirty at heart. He probably doesn't know anyone under thirty. Or forty for that matter. Stephen Harper isn't a guy you'd hang out with. So how did the Baby Boomers get so far off track? They were the ones marching for human right, but are now the conservatives. As young adults they saw first hand the injustice of race discrimination, but as leaders demonize people of middle eastern descent. Believed in the peace of the world, but have endorsed violence against others. They stood up for those that couldn't stand up for themselves, but now have turned their back on immigrants, the downtrodden, the poor.

The election in both countries (US and Canada) were about values, but I find little value in any of them. I don't think that a rich political leader, and I, have anything in common. And yet he speaks for me. (even if I don't vote for him). In the USA they have referred to Obama as an elitist. Of course he is. He's rich and running for president. To steal a line from Jon Stewart, "he'd better think he's better than the rest of us" The irony is that the people that are upset because he wants to reduce the tax cuts to the wealthy and give them to the middle class, are wealthy people. It's tough to find a solid opinion in the media when people like Bill O'Reilly are the people getting the tax cuts. That's what I call misrepresenting the facts. I would call it bad journalism, but that would suggest that there was good journalism going on. And I'm not sure of that.

Baby Boomers saw first hand what many regimes around the world were, and what they've become. Countries flourishing, others crumbling. Lets not forget the labelling. From the superpower seat, the American, baby boomer revolution, gave everyone on the planet a title. Friends, neighbours, enemy, axis of evil, ally, foe, terrorist, trading partner, communist, socialist, monarch, etc....

As a neighbour and friend, they accuse Canada as socialist. But did you know that the title Socialist, and socialist medicine, are two drastically different thing?

Our system admittedly isn't created for the rich and powerful that can afford to have tumour removed from their brain at no personal loss. It's created for those that can't afford it. It's so that new parents can feel comfort in the fact that their child gets just as sick as someone that doesn't have health insurance. It's so that we never have to rationalize the fact that someone died quickly so that they would never have to worry about the cost. And I think it's great. I'm on my way to have my newborn son's nuts ultra sounded to ensure that there isn't a concern with him. I'm not sure I would like to make the choice between feeding my family tonight, and having this procedure done. Because it would've had to be one or the other. The people that got the day off work so that they could attend a rally where the McCain campaign warns of the evils of a socialized medicine program does, maybe doesn't have to worry about it. Maybe they can yell out how damaging the system is, without ever have educated themselves with the benefits.

But they're not having babies anymore.

We are.

no religion, no politics

Anyone who drinks too much knows one thing.....

No religion, No politics!

These are things that we are told not to bring up when drinking, because it's way to easy to disagree. People fight all the time about religion and politics. I'm no different.

So just after my last scotch (five minutes ago) I decided to write a letter to an American pundit known as Sean Hannity. Sean Hannity oftens says, "America is the greatest country that God ever created"

the letter:

Mr Hannity,

I wonder about statements about God as they pertain to a particular country. As a man of faith I wonder how you can invoke the statement that God created a country and the values it has. God created the world, the people in it, and everything about it. To believe that God has segregated our planet into groups that he shines on based purely on the borders that people have created, is insulting. That suggestion insinuates that God looks past my country, Canada, while overseeing Alaska. He is not a tool in your marketing, nor is God biased towards political parties, amendments, or foreign policy. I know that you take your faith very serious, but statements like that are removed from the teaching of the bible and the Lords message.

"You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not acquit anyone who misuses his name."

But I didn't send it. Most of it represents me as a church going Christian, and I'm not. I already break most of the ten commandments, but I'm trying not lie. Much. Anymore.

But I figured that since he has a show where he can blatantly say that God favours countries, that I should reply on a blog read by my sister. So take that asshole!!!

My question(s) is this;

Do these nice church going people that show up at my door at 9:30am on a Saturday think that I've never heard of this "Christianity stuff"? I mean I'm a 35 yr old man. I haven't grown up in the woods!! I don't need you coming up to me to tell me something that I already know about. I mean I drove by the fucking church on my way home. It's a little pushy for me. When I'm on my way home from a bar I don't knock on YOUR door to tell you about Vodka. Maybe I should.

See, I'm all for religion. If that's, your thing do it. If it's not hurting people, do it. My problem with organized religion is that the rules haven't changed in like.......2008 years! I mean c'mon. A few simple updates.

You can't say that marriage is the union between a man and woman under God until death, then allow people to get divorced. (trust me I'm pro divorce) I just don't understand why the language, "til death do you part" has less weight then, " a man and a woman". Wouldn't the binding contract with you and God be more important than you and another person? If God is all seeing, omnipotent, and created everything, wouldn't that include homosexuals, Arabs, and liberals. Wouldn't he have created the doctors that perform abortions, as well as the mothers that chose it? Maybe I think that God is tolerant of everyone......

As for politics, the USA provides some real entertainment. I am concerned for anybody who has to sift through this shit for their leaders. It never seems that there is someone to choose anymore, there's only someone not to choose. Both candidates pander to anyone and everyone, all the while telling you why not to vote for the other guy. I wonder how the loser could even show their face when this is done. The economy is shit, two wars, scandals, lies, broken promises and all they can talk about is religion. That's fucked up. Obama doesn't wear a pin and they label him anti-American. McCain goes to POW camp as a kid and he's too American. The real disturbing thing is the candidates faith is what is deemed most important. Yet they're both church going Christians. And their respected parties attempt to expose the secular aspects of each others religion in order to get more votes. Wouldn't that be misusing the name of the Lord? While these attack ads refer to Obama as a terrorist, or secret Muslim, aren't the people behind them creating a false idol?

Elections are supposed to unite people, and give them a fair piece in the puzzle of democracy. What will John McCain say to those people that have said "Terrorist", or "Kill him" at his rallies, because of his campaign. Are they to be expected to drop the subject if Obama becomes the president? The USA needs leadership, it needs to be what we all strive to be , hate, or envy. It has been years since they've had that, and it might be more still. If Sean Hannity is right, and God does favour certain places more than others, I'm sure he's watching with a close eye on the election. I just hope he's got scotch......I just ran out.

90210

So last night I happened to watch the 90210 TV show. Other than having to be told what the eff was going on (like the original) it seemed....I'm not going to lie. Brutal!! ( like the original)

That's a little unfair considering that I never watched the original. I never had cable as a kid and there is a shitload of things that I know nothing about. I didn't know that Charles was in charge, or what tied the Family, or even who was the boss. Uncable in the 80's, in Canada meant that we had CBC ( for hockey and Anne of green gables) and whatever local channel was available. The only thing that I watched as a kid was three's company. Long after it was cancelled. Nothin like a bunch of stereotypical gay jokes!! Anyway I liked it out of convenience. And John Ritter was a genius.

The first time that I saw 90210 was at a friends house and I was very dissapointed. Not just because it involved a bunch of characters that I couldn't relate to but, it was a bucnh of characters that I couldn't relate to. Not long ago on an American website they posed the question, "What are the top ten High School TV shows?"

And who won this battle?

90210

Degrassi Jr High wasn't even on the list!

What the Fuck?

That's the only show ever that showed teenagers as teenagers. ( not to mention that they were played by teenagers. )

I admit that I get really upset about dramatic TV shows at times. I hate it when people say, "you got watch this show, it's so realistic"

You mean like 24? I watched three minutes of the first season, saw that they had a black president. Sure now it a reality now, but back then.

Or Party of Five. How much trama, and bad luck can a group of kids have. Honestly every episode was the end of the world. Parents die, kids an alcoholic, dude gets cancer, etc. C'mon!!!

90210 is the hardest to understand. And the new one has a black guy in it. But of course he's adopted, cause why would a successful black family go to West Beverly. They couldn't stretch it out a little bit. The only way to insert a black kid into the script was if he was adopted by the guy who becomes the principle of the school, blah blah blah blah.

Admittedly I didn't hear much of the dialogue because I was too busy making fun of it. My girlfriend hates watching TV with me.

The worst part of this blog is that I'm currently writing a TV drama.

At least if I think it sucks it might be popular!!

it's not you, it's me?

I have spent many of nights trying to explain myself to a girl who believes that we were "further along" than we actually were. I have blown plenty of great opportunities to have a healthy relationship, even long lasting friendships. Usually what has gotten in the way is, me. Seriously. It's me! I truly have put myself before almost everyone up until...... four years ago. Some people have crisis at age 30 about proposing, or getting a better job, or finishing school. Not me. I was just becoming a adult.
The previous ten years are ones I'll never forget, and yet I barely remember them at all. I decided that I would never have mid-life crisis, therefore I acted like an idiot in my twenties so I'd be way too fuckin tired when I was forty. No sports car, or hooters waitress fling. Nope. Already done. Well no sports car, but I did......shit I can't remember.
A close friend of mine got married at 23 and I freaked on him. I told him repeatedly how stupid of a mistake it was. I mean how could anyone at that age seriously have the mental capacity to make decisions. It was his life though. You opine, but at the end of the day it's up to each person to make his\her own choices. They wed, he strayed, they divorced. No time to say, "I told you so", but I'm an ego maniac, so I did. I mean when we were kids, we knew right and wrong. We just didn't care. She was pregnant so he did what he thought was right.

I only bring this up because of the massive, overplayed Sarah Palin thingy that is taking place down south. Her daughter is pregnant. And 17. And apparently the baby-daddy is going to pop the question, or already has.(Or so he's been told) Her ultra conservative parents, Gov.Palin, thinks this is great. The campaign is spinning the shit out this as if they're the poster children for the much tauted abstinence program. Except that was to prevent STD's and undesired pregnancy. I guess this is what she wanted. Oh yeah, but she's not married.......
But she will be. So that's okay. For Palin.

Here's what's bothering me. It's okay for her, for her daughter Britsol, for the McCain campaign.
But what about this kid Levi Johnston? This guy's fucked. He can't break up with her now? Even if he didn't want to, how do we know that won't change? When I was eighteen I didn't know what was going on. I'm not sure that I know now!!

I now have two kids and I'm in my thirties. I'm still scared. Now, I've definitely banged more chicks than this dude, and that should freak him out. He's better looking and probably has a better future and he lives in Alaska! The best thing that could happen to this teenager is that McCain loses the election. He can wait and few months, break it off. "It's not you. It the pressure. It's that I'm followed everywhere I go. It's that I can never look at porn, or go to a strip club unless uncle Bush is in town" He could easily live off the money he'll get from all kinds of newspapers, and books, maybe a made for TV movie. (I'm already writing a first draft) Poor fucker. Remember how hard it was to break up with that first person that thought you'd be with them forever? This bastard has to do it in front of a whole country.

One of the most damaging statments that has been spouted over the past few days is Sarah Palin saying that it was her daughters *decision to keep the baby, and wed Levi.
Not his, not the state, not god.

"We're proud of Bristol's *decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents."

Decision? I thought she didn't believe in women making decisions about their own bodies?
It seems weird that same people that believe in abstinence, believe that it okay not to follow the rule of abstinence as long as they get married. Even though their religous beliefs clearly state that they shouldn't break that pledge UNTIL they're married. But it okay because that makes them Pro-Life, even though it was her choice to have the baby and marry long before either one of these two chess pieces are allowed to vote. So by that logic they can't even roe through this shit, they have to Wade in it( I'm funny)

Are you telling me that Sarah Palin isn't even mad that her daughter disobeyed her? I mean what kind of parent isn't just a little pissed that her daughter was bent over the sofa with some red-neck down the street. Not to mention that he's a hockey player. That makes her a puck bunny!!!
Are we going to hear form Levi Johnston, or his parents? Wouldn't it be great to find out that Levi's parents are pro-choice, anti-gun, condom loving environmentalist. Dad's a vegan hippie and mom's a nurse in a woman's shelter.
Maybe it's just me

white after labour day?

Yes Yes I know.

I don't know where I've been either. A couple years ago just before my daughter was born I was without out thought for months. It happens to all fathers. Look at Alex Rios this year. He had a terrible start to to the season and no one knows why.
I do.
His girlfriend was pregnant. Even a rich athlete can over think life to the utmost degree while being on the other end of the life cycle. Toronto Maple Leafs fans were carving Brian McCabe into pieces, but he too was waddling into ultrasounds, fearing he had ruined three lives. We all feel it. Men can't help but look inside themselves and wonder why they should be granted fatherhood. Was it the time I drank a can of beer with a cigarette butt in it, or when contemplated masturbation on the 401. Both things weigh heavy on what kind of an asshole will you be when it's time to discipline that little beauty. You think an pro athlete can separate his own activities from the ones of his well-to-do child?
That all being said, my son ####, was born on August 21st.

That wasn't the only reason for my absence, it was mostly laziness. So what has brought me back from my non-blogging coma?
The United States of America!!!!!
I love the US. I love their big cities, their arrogance, and their F#ck you attitude about others. Someone said the great difference between Canada and the US is that we (CAN) are multi-cultural, and they(US) are a melting pot. We allow people to show pride in their heritage, and they say African-American, or Asian American. I love my country as well, but find myself disappointed when we talk about ourselves. Canadian are generally nice, and polite. But we don't show enough national pride. Americans are generally nice, and polite, but brand themselves so deep in pride that it shields everything else. An outsider would not dare question their methods unless they want to fingered "Anti-American". I hate that argument. It's like religion, in the sense that "Gods will" can be the answer to all challenges. Canadians sometimes say "at least we aren't American" as our get out of jail free card. I believe that we need to see the hierarchy with people on the top, then religion, country and political party afterwards. ( in no particular order)

Every four years I follow the insanity that transpires across the border in the poles. Democrat Vs Republican. Right vs Left. And now Black vs white. The lines are drawn so bold that you can't like one and not the other, and I find that weird. One of the problems that I have with religion is that there are a set of rules, and no exceptions. (unless you do something wrong and then you can say sorry and and start again.) I never really had any affinity to any political party growing up, so I was able to make a decision based solely off of my own experience, lifestyle, etc. And I think those should be the criteria. You can't have it both ways, just like religion. You can't be a conservative and not follow the rules of the party. I heard someone say that they chose a candidate( Stephen Harper) because she wanted to rich and felt that the conservative party looked after the wealthy better. The statement bothered me. For a long time. I'm one of those people that remembers certain things and they play back in me head all the time until I figure things out. But I think it bothered me because it was a statement that was made based off a financial future. Maybe it's the baby thing, but I think I'll make my decisions based off of a better future for my children. Whatever the world turns out to be I want them to feel comfortable about it. It was the lifestyle assumptions that go with the party that scared me. Anti- Gay, reversing a long fought and reasonable marijuana law, pro-life, etc. These are all the prerequisites for our American counter parts as well. Same conservatives, just on a bigger scale.
Maybe being a conservative is like being religious. You can preach it, press it on others, and judge those that don't agree, but you don't really have to follow the rules. Unless you get caught breaking one of those rules, then you can say you're sorry and start again.
After all "It's Gods will".
I hope that both our countries can successfully look at it's citizens as people first and their race, creed, color, religion and political party after. If the decisions are made with the human race first, both countries can have true leadership.
For me It just that Black and White.

Man's best friend

For quit a while now I have been against "rap\hip-hop" of this new generation. It really pisses me off. In the old days you would call a woman a hoe, your friend a nigga, and bitch about being poor. Now a days it's "I'm richer than you, I'll always be richer than you, I'm rich." What happened to the art of hip hop? When the godfathers of this movement started I doubt this is what they had in mind. Some songs only consist of giving props to those that influenced them. Who's the genius producer on that one? Can you imagine if every other genre of music did the same thing. Garth brooks screaming out and what up to Johnny cash or Kelly Clarkson sayin this if for my bitch Celine Dion. Actually that would be funny, but come on. Anybody who doesn't think that most of the hip hop today isn't just as manufactured as Britney Spears.....probably won't read this.(or anything. Pull up your pants!) But whatever. I fell in love with rap because of the freedom to speak. The stories of survival, and the truth of the streets. I have a hard time thinking that Fiddy has any idea what that's like anymore considering that he lives in Connecticut. I don't doubt that his life was crime filled and scary, but now that he dines at five star restaurants and is covered from head to toe in diamonds, I feel he's just stickin it to the rest of us. And maybe he deserves to, but it doesn't mean I'm buying that piece of shit album of his. ( I will download it illegally though) Maybe if these asshole didn't flaunt how much money they have, or pretend to have, I would pay for this shit. But I don't.

*keys to the rap video-
-Fancy rented cars
-Scantly clad women dancing like strippers
-throw money at the camera
-strip club\pool\beach\boat on the ocean
-ridiculously sized pendant on chain the size of my wrist
-"act gangsta" no matter where your from

Does anybody else want to push over every kid you see with his pants hanging down? Or a spray painted shirt? Why would anyone buy gigantic fake jewelry? Gangs aren't cool. I saw a kid the other day wearing a Tupac shirt. And he was like ten. If your going to have a hero maybe you should pick one that didn't get gunned down before he was thirty! I'm just sayin. I some times wonder if some of these fools wouldn't like to get shot just to sell more CDs.

It would be nice if there was someone trying to make a album that included a positive message of some sort. Maybe talk about not wanting to shoot, or be shot? Just a thought. Gun violence in a civilized world is embarrassing. This isn't about food, tyranny or water supply. It is about credibility. It is about reputation. It's bull shit. Icecube has a a song on the epic album Death Certificate* called, Man's best friend, comparing owning a dog to a gun. In America the gun wins.

There is nothing cool about guns. I understand the use of them in movies, and I myself have written parts with guns. That's fantasy. The only people that think the image of the gangsta look is cool, are the other people with the gangsta look. Lame! You can't live in a rich suburbs and be a gangsta. You can't drive around in your Dad's BMW and be a gangsta. And by the way why? if you want wear a camo jacket and act tough join the fucking army you pussy, and go to Afghanistan. If you want to portray an image of a people that die at an early age, may I suggest dressing like an Iraqi. A quick note- If you're going to wear a fur coat because you think it's tha bomb, make sure it's a mans' fur and not my grandmas.

Those of you who live in Toronto and surrounding areas than you know how important it is to stop gun violence in this country. I am completely anti-gun. This does not mean that all of you that take an unloaded rifle in your truck, and go hunting. Although you scare the piss out me I don't mean you. I mean the people that keep sawed off shotguns in their cars. People that have a hand gun of any kind. "well I like to go to the range." So leave it there. Or in your trunk. How do you think that couple in the states feel now that there 1yr old daughter shot herself? How's their protection plan going? Nobody thinks leaving a heroin filled needle around the house is a good idea. I hope.

I can't understand why people don't want guns to be registered. I guess I don't see the big deal. If I owned something that could kill someone, or something, I don't think that I would have a problem with registering with the gov't. Some believe that the undesirables will find a way no matter what, so what's the difference. Okay. Why have a speed limit, people will just speed anyway. There is a paragraph on http://www.gunregistration.org/ that states:

Gun owners are worried that total gun registration will eventually lead to the disarming of the people and cite the Nazi disarming of the Jews after gun registration became law in Germany. They also cite examples from Great Britain saying that after gun registration became law, different kinds of guns will gradually be outlawed until no one will be allowed to own a gun of any kind.

By the way I love the fact that we can use the Nazis as an example every time we don't like something. You know who else believed in global warming, the Nazis. I guess I don't fully understand this quote, because I don't see what's wrong with not have any guns. I'm an idiot I guess. At least I don't have my pants hanging low, with an over sized painted shirt, like the Nazis.

We have to get over this obsession with firearms. It's not your friend. It's not your penis. It won't make you cool. You want chicks to like you, get a fucking dog!

But for Christ sake walk him!!
You Canadians can make a difference

* - one of the best rap albums of all time!!

P.S.- To all of you who voted for Harper because you're a capitalist, and want to be rich, and feel that the conservative gov't has you in mind, you'd better be a straight, gun owning, anti-pot, pro abortion, Christian. And you need better job if I know you!

Women....

I know that people have read the book men are from Venus... and, He's just not that into you. I haven't. I don't read, I write. People think that's weird, but I don't have time read a book and try and write one. And I'm really lazy. Whatever. But something funny happened the other day when I was talking to a girl friend of mine. She had recently split from a long term boyfriend and asked me why men(either her ex or a new boy) were so deep. So many mind games? Why did guys do things that had so many undertones, ulterior motives, and complicated. What? "Is this how women think?" I replied. "Still" I think it's cute. I love the fact that so many women out there give us so much undeserved credit. It's refreshing. So I told her what I know. What I know about women in particular. The secret that too many women don't know, and what all guys think that you should already. If you are a female you might want to sit down( if you're not already) If your a guy you probably stopped reading once you realized that it wasn't about sports, porn or fighting.

Ready......

We're not that smart.

There, I said. It's true. We don't know shit. We can't think that far into the future to create a scenerio where we are trying to get a point across, unless it has to do with playoff spots. When you ask what we're thinking and we say nothing, we're not being deep, or difficult, or introspective. We're thinking nothing. We don't have relationship agendas except maybe thinking about who we would sleep with if we had the chance. Left alone to our own thoughts it sports, porn, XBOX 360, and porn. Not in that order. Porn's usually first and third. It's very flattering that you think that we're that deep. That you think that there is some other message behind, "I'll call you later". Sadly there isn't. Sadly our brain capacity does not comprehend thoughts on that level unless it involves pinch hitting in the eigth against a lefty on the road. Then we can dig into that vat of knowledge that is baseball probabilities. (Blue Jays lefties only hit about .256 with runners in scoring postion last year while pinch hitting) Other than that I know nothing about saying the right thing. Usually I answer with "I know" when T says I love you. I'm an idiot. I often argue that I love hockey and it would be unfair to hockey to put her in the same category. I think I'm pretty funny. Few around here agree.

So to all of you beautiful women that think we've got some plan, or thought, or motives, or anything other than the immediate future, or ridiculous probabilities. (If the Blue jays were in the AL Central how many years would we have made the playoffs?) I thank you. I thank you so much in giving me and men everywhere credit that we clearly do not deserve. I hope that one day we can rise up and give you the respect, love and.....

what's that?

Mark Buehrle pitched a perfect game.....

I'll be right back
